This is Susan Robinson, one of the last people in the country who can preform late term abortions after the murder of Dr. George Tiller. This is from an awesome documentary called After Tiller, about the last 4 late-term abortion practitioners in the country. It’s a great watch and available on Netflix, would strongly recommend.

Rant about Respect at the Gym

I went to the gym, I know, weird right? I have NEVER gone to the gym on free will, but I decided to because I was punched in the gut by reality of possible stomach ulcers and Crohns disease. Both are caused by stress which everyone goes through on a daily basis.

I currently am dealing with GERD, low vitamin intake, iron deficiency anemia, bad joints and other small medical problems. Because of my problems, I have a hard time getting out bed or struggle to walk up a few stairs. I have really low energy and my body is weak. Growing up and even now, I can barely lift more than 20lbs. I know, that’s a low weight. My body itself is the reason I cannot do as much, it’s not the mental hold back everyone talks about. I have motivation and want to work, but I have limits and everyone does. My limit is a lot lower than my brother’s who is an athlete. His body is stronger than mine. My friend Sarah, she’s able to deadlift 240lbs. I can only deadlift 12lbs.

The point here is everyone has a story outside of the gym. When I went on Thursday to my school’s weight room, I did my usual thing. I ran on the elliptical for 5min as a full body warm up and did some stretches. I did the seated leg press, hip abducters and other leg exercises. It was when I went to the seated chest press I was approached by the typical fear every girl/guy thinks about when they want to go to the gym: judgment. This thin, brunette girl (who I assumed was Italian, or it was a spray tan that had gone bad) came up to me with this smirk on her face. I thought she just had the cliché chronic bitch face going on and was waiting to use the machine. She looked at the weights, looked at me, and looked back the weights again.

"You know, lifting 10lbs won’t get you an ass or a guy. You’re so weak."

Excuse me.

WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY?! This is one of the things that pisses me off so god damn much. People go to the gym for many reasons. Some go for building muscle, some to lose weight, and hell, if you’re there to get a fine ass booty, I ain’t going to judge. I personally am going to the gym to release stress and get healthy. The fact this girl came up to me and called me weak, pissed me off.

First of all, I was working out my arms. My arm muscles don’t work out my glutes. Secondly, I have a wonderful boyfriend of almost 7months and he thinks I have a damn fine ass. Finally, your rude statement made you look so ignorant. Grow up!

People, just leave other patrons at the gym alone unless they ask you for help. We’re all here for different reasons like I said before. Leave the judgment at home, or at least don’t speak out loud about it. Everyone has different backgrounds in health. We’re all different levels. We all have different goals. Just respect people at the gym and in general. It took a lot for me to go to the gym and work out, and I’m proud of myself for it. Of course I didn’t let the rude comment stop my dedication to getting healthy, but there are some people who will get more hurt by something like that than me.

Do your own thing. Let them do their thing. The gym is supposed to be a place where everyone can work out to reach their own fitness goals.

Peace. Love. Happiness.

Keep judgement to yourself.

End Rant.

My First Name Ain’t Baby: ‘Hey Baby’ and Street Harassment (via official-mens-frights-activist)

(via ladypandacat)

There’s no point to a guy yelling, “Hey sexy baby” at me out of the passenger window of a car as it speeds past. Even if I was into creepy misogynists and wanted to give him my number, I couldn’t. The car didn’t even slow down. But that’s okay, because he wasn’t actually hitting on me. The point wasn’t to proposition me or chat me up. The only point was to remind me, and all women, that our bodies are his to stare at, assess, comment on, even touch. “Hey sexy baby” is the first part of a sentence that finishes, “this is your daily message from the patriarchy, reminding you that your body is public property”.

After threats against her life, Anita Sarkeesian canceled an upcoming talk at Utah State University. Gamergate trolls are celebrating on Twitter while simultaneously dismissing the threats as nothing. Does this read like nothing to you?

“I will write my manifesto in her spilled blood, and you will all bear witness to what feminist lies and poison have done to the men of America.”

The email’s author threatened to murder feminist women indiscriminately in a mass shooting. And because carrying guns on campus outweigh the right of students and guests to be safe, Anita Sarkeesian canceled her talk.

The bullies won this time. And if you think this shit isn’t dangerous, I’m fresh out of fucks to give and I’m not restocking any time soon. It’s goddamn wrong to to dismiss this by claiming the author isn’t serious. Elliot Rodger’s rantings were dismissed until it was too late.

This. Is. Not. OK.
